Content Moderation Policy

Last updated: 1 October 2026

Aura is operated by Nervous Group LLP and we take user and community safety seriously. This page explains the categories of content that are prohibited on the Service, how we enforce these rules, and how to report a concern.

What we do not allow

The Service must never be used to generate, request, upload or distribute:

  • Sexual or sexualised content depicting minors (anyone under 18), or content that could plausibly be interpreted as depicting a minor. This is a strict, absolute rule.
  • Content that identifies or impersonates real living persons (including celebrities) without their explicit verifiable consent.
  • Non-consensual sexual content, including content depicting rape, coercion or persons who cannot legally consent.
  • Bestiality or sexual content involving animals.
  • Incest between depicted family members.
  • Gore, torture, mutilation or content glorifying serious violence.
  • Terrorism, violent extremism or content promoting attacks on people or property.
  • Self-harm or suicide instructions, encouragement or glorification.
  • Hate speech or content that dehumanises a person or group based on protected characteristics.
  • Doxxing or material designed to facilitate stalking, harassment or unauthorised surveillance.
  • Material that infringes intellectual-property rights of third parties.

This list is not exhaustive. We may classify additional categories as prohibited at any time.

How we enforce this

  • AI-generated outputs pass through automated moderation filters before they reach you.
  • User inputs are screened against a tiered blocklist; hard-rule violations are blocked and result in a moderation event being logged.
  • Refunds for blocked AI outputs are issued automatically.
  • Repeated or severe violations lead to account suspension or permanent termination without refund of unused Tokens.
  • Content involving suspected child sexual-abuse material (CSAM) is reported to the relevant authorities, including the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and the UK Internet Watch Foundation (IWF), in accordance with applicable law.

How to report a concern

If you encounter content on the Service that you believe violates this Safety Policy, write to abuse@aura4you.io with:

  1. A description of the content and where you encountered it (route, character or feed item).
  2. The approximate time it occurred.
  3. Why you believe it violates the policy.

We aim to acknowledge reports within 48 hours and to make a substantive decision within 7 days. For urgent reports involving an immediate threat or suspected CSAM, write abuse@aura4you.io with "URGENT" in the subject line.

Appeals

If your account or content has been actioned and you believe the decision was wrong, you may appeal by writing to abuse@aura4you.io within 30 days. Provide your account email and the reason you believe the action was incorrect. A reviewer who was not involved in the original decision will respond within 14 days.

Suicide and self-harm protocol

Every character on Aura is an AI companion, not a real person. This protocol explains how we make that clear and what happens when a conversation suggests that someone may be thinking about suicide or self-harm. It applies to every chat on the Service, including chats before sign-up.

AI disclosure

  • Every chat shows an AI label next to the character's name.
  • Each conversation starts with a notice that you are chatting with an AI companion, not a real person. The notice is shown again when you return to a conversation three hours or more after it was last shown, and at least every three hours while a chat stays open.
  • If you sincerely ask a character whether it is an AI or a real person, it is instructed to tell you honestly that it is an AI companion.

Detection

  • Every message you send is checked automatically on our servers for language that may indicate suicidal thoughts or an intention to self-harm, in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Russian and Polish.
  • Automated detection is not perfect. It can miss messages, and it can flag messages that were not meant that way.

How the companion responds

When a message is flagged, the companion is instructed, for that reply, to:

  • step out of any romantic or sexual roleplay;
  • respond with care and without judgement;
  • gently encourage you to contact a crisis line or someone you trust;
  • remind you that it is an AI companion and cannot help in an emergency; and
  • never give information about methods or means of self-harm.

No photos or other media are sent in that reply. A flagged message is answered even if your free daily messages have run out.

Crisis resources

At the same time, the app shows a crisis-support card with free services, putting the one for your country first where we can tell where you are:

  • United States: call or text 988 (988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline).
  • United Kingdom and Ireland: call Samaritans on 116 123.
  • European Union: call 112 in an emergency.
  • Anywhere else: find a local helpline at findahelpline.com.

If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call your local emergency number now. Aura is not a crisis or emergency service, and an AI companion is not a substitute for professional help.

Logging and review

When a message is flagged, we record a safety event for review by our safety team: the time, the character, the language and the type of signal. We do not copy the text of your message into this record. For visitors who are not signed in, the event is written to our server logs without account details. These records are used to review and improve this protocol, are handled under our Privacy Policy, and never count towards automated account suspension.
